- Association of The Disabled Extols Family for Philanthropy,
By Babatunde Kaka.
The Founder of Able Soldiers Association of the Disabled has appealed to Lagos state government not to leave people living with disabilities (PLWD) to their devises.
Segun Williams, the President of Able Soldiers Association, made the plea on the sidelines of the Ramadan Lecture and Prayers held in memory of Alhaji Imam Rasheed Kadri and Alhaja Juwerat Amope Kadri on Sunday 2nd May 2021 at the ancient family edifice on Araromi Street, Epe.
The association thanked the Kadri Odedeogboro Family of Epe for the hands of fellowship extended to its members.
Speaking in an interview with Ekohotblog on behalf of the Physically Challenged present in the gathering, Williams implored the state government to put the welfare of disabled on the front burner of governance, noting that there is urgent need to address social and political issues that impede the growth of persons with disabilities.
Williams noted that the Lagos State Government needs to provide an enabling environment for people with disabilities to thrive, noting that provision of jobs, mobility aiding equipment like wheelchairs, crutches and other welfare and social intervention programmes will go a long way addressing the challenges that plague disabled people.
He disclosed that the association has a mechanism in place to checkmate the activities of the bad eggs who stampede efforts of philanthropists

On invitation given to them by Kadri family to the Ramadan Lecture, William disclosed that he was stunned by the philanthropic gesture of the family, noting that it was the first time in over a decade of his existence in Epe that such gathering is being experienced. He was astonished by the recognition given to the disabled in the community to enlighten them with the message of hope from the scriptures, the Holy Quran.
He noted that such acts are what he has always looked forward to while also stating that there is a lot to work on in terms of lifting the physically challenged out of poverty.
” I am very happy about this gathering because I was not expecting it at all. But I really wish the politicians and well to do in the society can come in to organize something like this, even if it is annually. Coming together, we talk, we have that rapport for us to know how to come about a better life for the physically challenged ones. If the wealthy in our society comes in, I believe poverty will be reduced and there will be hope “, he stated.
Williams, therefore, appealed to the public who intend to help the physically challenged to consult the association so that wheelchairs of any kind that would be useless at the end of the day wouldn’t be distributed.
” They don’t care about the kind of wheelchair we use. They will just bring anyhow wheelchair because it is for the physically challenged and then they should use it. No, we have specific ones that are more comfortable for us while we sit and we also enjoy it “, he stated.
Ekohotblog gathered that some of the beneficiaries smiled home with envelopes of cash and other palliatives.
