Police Confirm Arrest, Detention of 97 Shiite Members After Deadly Abuja Clash

The Nigeria Police Force has detained 97 members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, for prosecution after a violent clash in Abuja on Sunday.

The confrontation resulted in the deaths of two policemen and left three others seriously injured.

Additionally, three patrol vehicles were set ablaze during the altercation.

According to a statement on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrests were made possible due to credible intelligence reports.

“As investigations unfold, the Nigeria Police Force is determined to uncover the full extent of this attack and prevent future occurrences of such violence against police officers,” he said.

The I-G vowed to resist any form of anarchy or unrest in the country and pledged to maintain law and order nationwide.

He condemned the killings of police officers as “outrageous and unacceptable,” asserting that those responsible have “murdered peace.”
