The move follows a petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) alleging a breach of aviation rules during a ValueJet boarding process.
The NCAA accused KWAM 1 of attempting to board with a flask suspected to contain alcohol, in violation of domestic flight safety regulations. According to the petition, the singer allegedly refused to surrender the item when asked by flight crew, sparking a heated exchange that delayed the flight’s departure.
In a formal statement, the IGP ordered the Airport Command to conduct a thorough investigation and “ensure that justice is served.” The directive comes amid heightened attention to passenger behavior on Nigerian flights, with authorities stressing the need to enforce aviation safety rules without favoritism.
The NCAA’s petition, also sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation, seeks legal action over what it described as obstructive behavior. Aviation experts say such disruptions, if proven, can carry serious penalties, including fines or prosecution.
The incident, which occurred on August 5, 2025, has ignited public debate. Many Nigerians recall a recent case where an unruly passenger on another domestic airline was swiftly arrested and charged—raising concerns about whether high-profile figures receive special treatment.
Supporters of KWAM 1, however, have urged caution, insisting that the investigation be allowed to run its course before drawing conclusions. They argue that details of the altercation remain disputed, and eyewitness accounts vary.
As the probe continues, stakeholders in both aviation and entertainment circles are closely watching. The outcome may not only determine legal consequences for the Fuji legend but also send a broader message about equal enforcement of laws in Nigeria’s transport sector.
The police have yet to announce a timeline for concluding the investigation, but officials say findings will be made public once complete. For now, the case underscores how quickly routine travel can escalate into a national controversy when celebrity status is involved.
