EKO HOT BLOG reports that Akpabio disclosed the incident during plenary on Tuesday, stating that the tragedy occurred on Sunday shortly after his convoy picked him up from the airport. He said the team was in Oyo State to attend the chieftaincy installation of a serving senator.
According to the Senate President, the tanker rammed into the convoy, killing Hussaini, who was serving as his dispatch rider. He described the impact as severe, adding that the officer’s head was shattered in the crash.
“We went to Oyo State for the installation of our colleague. Unfortunately, my dispatch rider was run over by a tanker driver, and his head was shattered. We just buried him 15 minutes ago in Kogi State. He left two wives and four children,” Akpabio told lawmakers.
He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and announced plans to support the officer’s children. Akpabio said he would recommend two of Hussaini’s senior children for immediate employment in government parastatals, adding that he would personally employ them in his private businesses if necessary.
Further details emerged when the senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, raised a motion for personal explanation to formally present the matter to the Senate.

Karimi described Hussaini as a Deputy Superintendent of Police who was expected to retire next year. He said the officer hailed from Kogi State and had served in Akpabio’s security detail since 2023, when Akpabio assumed office as Senate President.
Lawmakers observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late police officer.
