EKO HOT BLOG reports that Gana made this known during an interview on African Independent Television on Friday, stating that although formal negotiations are yet to commence, preliminary discussions have taken place with individuals close to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
This development comes days after PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, hinted at the party’s interest in reuniting with Obi. Abdullahi described Obi as a major political asset, saying, “Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back, indeed, because he is a very, very great capital for any political party.”
When asked to verify these talks, Gana responded, “Yes, why not? He was our member. In fact, if I were the former Vice President, I would have said in 2023, ‘No, Peter, you were my vice-presidential candidate in 2019. Now, I’ll support you.’ It would have been a strong statement.”
Gana further explained that while the party has not held a direct formal meeting with Obi, they have met with people he trusts and consults. “I have met him, and I have met people he would refer to. We’ve sat for hours. We are moving step by step,” he noted.
The former Minister of Information also revealed that the PDP’s consultations extend beyond Obi. According to him, the party is assessing several southern political figures who could play crucial roles in the 2027 race. “We’re not just looking at one person. One, two, three, even more. You know, the South is full of talent,” he added.

The PDP appears to be positioning itself for a broad coalition that could reshape the political landscape ahead of the next presidential election.
