[BREAKING] LG Election: Armed Men In Police Uniform Attempt Break-in At Rivers Electoral Office
Security operatives in Rivers State thwarted an attempt by armed men disguised as police officers to storm the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office in the early hours of Friday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident reportedly took place around 1 a.m. when the culprits tried to scale the gates and access the commission’s strong room to steal sensitive electoral materials for Saturday’s local government election.
According to an eyewitness, vigilant security personnel alerted senior officials of the commission and government authorities, prompting Governor Siminalayi Fubara to intervene swiftly. The governor, accompanied by lawmakers, political leaders, and top stakeholders, arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
Speaking to reporters in front of the RSIEC office in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara condemned the attempted breach and praised the security team for their swift response.

He emphasized that local government elections are strictly state matters and warned against any attempts to disrupt the process or cause unrest in the state.

As of Friday morning, government officials and supporters have remained on-site to ensure the security of the facility. Efforts to reach the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, for comment were unsuccessful.
