The raid followed the neutralization of one robber during a foiled robbery attempt and the arrest of the gang’s overall leader, who was tracked down in Imo State. John explained that the leader’s confession provided crucial intelligence, guiding police operatives to the gang’s operational base.
“In a major crackdown on criminal activity, the Command has dismantled a suspected notorious armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorizing residents of Ikot Ekpene and its environs. The operation, which led to the arrest of seven suspects, is part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in the region,” the statement said.
At about 2:30 a.m. on August 8, 2025, a team of operatives stormed the hideout in Ikot Osong, where they found the suspects and various items believed to have been used in their criminal activities.

Those arrested were identified as David Effiong Silas, also known as Davido (male, 29), Etido Udo Lazarus (male, 26), Etimbuk Thursday Udofia (female, 25), Ime Effiong Silas, also known as Udo Doctor (male, 27), Joseph John Nelson (male, 31), Nduese Solomon John (male, 32), and Imo Effiong Udofia (male, 22).
Recovered items included one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun, two spent cartridges and one live cartridge, one live 7.62 mm AK 47 round, five motorcycles, one bicycle, three face masks, two power banks, several mobile phones, a police crested cap, an army camouflage cap, suspected charms, and a liquid substance believed to be used for native protection.
John added that investigations are ongoing to recover more stolen property and track down other members of the gang still on the run.
