EKO HOT BLOG reports that the invitation, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede, Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, cited allegations made on July 31, in which Sowore’s name “featured prominently.”
The letter, addressed to Sowore, stated: “In view of the foregoing, and in the spirit of fair hearing, you are kindly requested to interview the undersigned through SP Abdulhafiz Garba at the Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters Abuja, by 10:00 a.m. to shed more light on the allegations.”
According to Sahara Reporters, the summons is linked to recent publications alleging that Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun approved preferential promotions for certain female officers reportedly in romantic relationships with him, including one Bukola Kuti.

Multiple sources said the reports, published by Sowore’s platform, Sahara Reporters, detailed the alleged promotion scandal and other controversies surrounding the police hierarchy.
This is not Sowore’s first confrontation with the police. In February 2025, he was charged to court for allegedly recording officers who were accused of soliciting bribes along the Lagos airport road.
The police have not officially commented on the specific allegations, but insiders suggest the panel aims to question Sowore on the accuracy and intent behind the reports.
Sowore, known for his activism and frequent criticism of government institutions, has not publicly responded to the invitation as of press time.
