Police Condemn Viral Video Of VeryDarkMan In Uniform, Launch Investigation
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning to the public against the unauthorized and indiscriminate use of police uniforms, following a viral video of social media activist Martins Otse, also known as “VeryDarkMan,” wearing police attire.
The statement, released on Saturday, comes in response to Otse’s video, where he introduces himself as “CSP VeryDarkMan” and Nigeria’s “number one online police.”

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in the video, Otse claimed to be committed to “sanitizing” the social media space by using his platform to call out and expose alleged oppressors, particularly among online vendors.
He further stated his intention to tarnish the reputations of those accused of misconduct, provided there is evidence against them.
Reacting to the video, the Police Force condemned Otse’s actions, stating it has no affiliation with the statements made by him.
They clarified that they have opened an investigation into the video and the source of the police uniform Otse was wearing, as the unauthorized use of police gear is strictly prohibited.
“The Nigeria Police Force strongly condemns the unauthorized use of official uniforms and accoutrements by an online personality, Mr. Martins Otse, popularly known as ‘VDM,’ in a video posted on his social media platforms,” the statement read.
“The Force unequivocally disassociates itself from this unauthorized portrayal and has launched a full investigation to determine the source of the Police gear used, as well as the authority under which he acted.”
The statement reminded the public that the unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia, or other official symbols constitutes a criminal offense under Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, both of which carry strict penalties.
While acknowledging the creativity of young Nigerians in the content creation space, the Police Force cautioned against the misuse of official police symbols, stressing that such actions compromise the integrity and values of the institution and will not be tolerated.
