Premier League: Arsenal Wins 2-0, Liverpool Victorious, Brighton Crushes Everton
Arsenal and Brighton kicked off their 2024-2025 Premier League campaigns with impressive victories on August 17. Arsenal began their season with a commanding 2-0 win over Wolves at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners dominated the match from the start, with Kai Havertz opening the scoring with a well-placed header from Bukayo Saka’s cross. Saka, the Nigerian-born England forward, then doubled Arsenal’s lead with a powerful left-footed shot after a quickly taken free-kick.

Despite not being at their best, Arsenal controlled the game and managed to secure a well-deserved win. Wolves had few opportunities, with debutant Jorgen Strand Larsen having a header saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Substitute Matheus Cunha also missed a clear chance to equalize, but Wolves ultimately struggled to create meaningful chances, leaving manager Gary O’Neil with little to argue about the outcome.
Meanwhile, Brighton’s youngest-ever permanent manager, Fabian Hurzeler, led his team to a stunning 3-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. This match marked the beginning of Everton’s final season at the historic venue before moving to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Despite the sentimental occasion, Brighton showed no mercy.
The game featured an early disallowed goal for Everton’s Jack Harrison and a near miss from Joao Pedro, who hit the post. Brighton took the lead through Kaoru Mitoma’s finish after excellent work from Yankuba Minteh.
Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra later added two more goals to seal the victory for Brighton, while Everton’s Ashley Young received a red card, compounding a disappointing opening day for the home side.
In Arne Slot’s Premier League debut as Liverpool’s head coach, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota played pivotal roles in securing a hard-fought 2-0 victory over newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road on August 17.
Liverpool’s first goal came after a well-executed team play involving Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, with Portuguese forward Jota finishing Salah’s low cross to beat Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton just after the hour mark.
Five minutes later, Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead by scoring from Dominik Szoboszlai’s pass. This goal marked Salah’s ninth opening-day Premier League goal, setting a new league record.
