The federal government on Thursday, August 1, disclosed its plans to establish a community policing Initiative which will see 40,000 people recruited across the 774 local government areas of the country.
This was disclosed by the presidency in a series of tweets, explaining that under the guidance of the police, the community police officers will be assigned to states of their residence.
The government stated that with an initial recruitment of 40,000 officers, the community police will be expected to act as liaison between the police and their communities.
It added that1,300 community police will also be drawn from religious bodies, trade union, youth organisation, women group among other.
