EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has convened a National Security Council meeting to review the current security situation in Nigeria ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for February 25.
The meeting is being held at the State House in Abuja and is expected to address concerns over the implementation of the Naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which has resulted in violent unrest in some parts of the country.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno. Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi.
The meeting was also attended by the service chiefs, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, and the Chief of Defense Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman, the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar were also present.
Before the National Security Council meeting, the President presided over the launch of security equipment donated by the Coalition Against Covid-19 (CACOVID) at the Council Chambers. The equipment is intended to bolster Nigeria’s security apparatus and help address the country’s security challenges.
The meeting discussed various security issues, including the ongoing violence in parts of the country and measures to be taken to ensure peaceful elections on February 25.
