In a significant development for the aviation sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the upgrade of Maiduguri Airport to international status, Eko Hot Blog reports.
The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, via his verified Twitter handle, @SundayDareSD.
The Maiduguri airport upgrade marks the establishment of international airports across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, promoting economic growth, regional connectivity, and facilitating trade and investment in the Northeast.

In another development, Dare confirmed the official launch of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU) in Abuja.
The specialized institution aims to advance aviation and aerospace education in Africa, contributing to the development of highly skilled professionals in the industry.
Offering world-class training in aviation management, aerospace engineering, and related disciplines, the AAAU is poised to position Nigeria as a key player in the sector within Africa.
The university will play a pivotal role in cultivating a new generation of aviation and aerospace experts, furthering Nigeria’s reputation as a regional leader in this field.
