Supporters of Delta-based cleric Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin staged a protest on Tuesday at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) office in Asaba, Delta State, opposing the agency’s recent statements about his spiritual products.

The protesters, including bishops and other religious leaders, carried placards urging NAFDAC to stop what they described as an “attack” on Fufeyin, who leads Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the agency had called on Nigerians to avoid buying the cleric’s spiritual products, such as Miracle Water and River Jordan Water, claiming Fufeyin falsely asserted that his products were NAFDAC-certified.

NAFDAC’s Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, issued a statement on Sunday discrediting Fufeyin’s claims, warning the public against the use of such spiritual products. However, the protesters argued that NAFDAC has no authority over spiritual items, as they do not fall within the agency’s regulatory scope.

The demonstrators, undeterred by heavy rain, carried placards with messages like “Spiritual products have spiritual backing, don’t need NAFDAC approval” and “When it comes to spiritual matters, respect them.”

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Most Rev. Prof. Samuel Baaba, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Charismatic Anglican Church of Nigeria, criticized NAFDAC for its involvement, stating, “NAFDAC does not have a right to regulate spiritual products. Matters of faith should not be interfered with.”

Most Rev. Calixtus, Rector of Union Theological Institute and Seminary in Port Harcourt, echoed this sentiment, arguing that NAFDAC’s mandate does not extend to spiritual products.

He stated, “To the best of my knowledge, NAFDAC has no authority to regulate or declare spiritual products fake, especially when it has not tested them.”

The clerics and their followers demanded that NAFDAC withdraw its statement and cease its efforts to regulate spiritual matters.
