Despite undergoing rehabilitation, Emmanuel’s addiction reportedly led to occasional violent outbursts.
According to sources, Emmanuel allegedly attacked his mother with an axe before setting her body on fire.
Neighbors became suspicious when the gate of the Umukoro residence was left open around 10 p.m., which was unusual.
Upon checking the house, they found fire coming from within and discovered Mrs. Umukoro’s body, burnt beyond recognition.
Eyewitnesses reported that Emmanuel was seen speeding out of the compound in his mother’s car at approximately 8:30 p.m.
His suspicious movements led to his arrest by the police along the Sapele-Warri Road as he attempted to flee.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Sunday, September 9.
He stated that the suspect is currently in police custody, but the investigation is ongoing to determine his involvement in the crime.
