The 24-year-old defender, who was born in Spain, denies the accusations, according to his lawyer Fanny Colin. She added that during a hearing this week, Hakimi “firmly denied” the allegations and suggested he had been the victim of a “racketeering attempt.”
Hakimi was a key player for Morocco during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was seen training with PSG on Friday after the charges were announced. The club has not yet commented on the matter.
Under French law, the charges against Hakimi do not automatically result in a trial and could be dismissed.
However, French media reports suggest that a preliminary investigation was launched on Monday after a woman reported being raped by Hakimi at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt on the outskirts of Paris last Saturday.
PSG coach Christophe Galtier declined to comment on the matter, saying he would only answer questions “of a non-sporting nature” relating to Hakimi.
