Rent, Buy Only Property With Building Approval, LASPPPA Charges Lagos Residents
Eko Hot Blog reports that the General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, (LASPPPA), Tpl Kehinde Osinaike, has urged Lagosians to verify and ask questions before buying or renting a house.
His advice was contained in a statement posted on the Lagos State Government’s X account on Friday evening.
“We approach the December festive period that most Nigerians come back into the country, especially Lagos to get properties or develop their existing land,” Osinaike was quoted as saying.
He, therefore, advised citizens to make sure the house they want to rent or buy has building approval and also those who intend to develop their sites, should get building permit before starting.
“To get your building permit, kindly visit any of LASPPPA nearest offices in all the LGA or the headquarters at Oba Akinjobi Way Ikeja GRA opposite Soho Filling Station,” he added.
The LASPPPA GM’s advice came amid the Lagos government’s fierce enforcement of building laws which has included the demolition of several buildings.
The government said the actions were being taken to save lives from building collapse incidents.
At the inauguration of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) headquarters on Tuesday, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said his administration will not compromise on safety, adding that no leniency will be shown towards any building that doesn’t meet standards.
He noted that the Lagos government’s goal is to curb building collapse incidents and foster a safe, compliant environment.
“This [inaguration of LASBCA new four-storey office building] marks a pivotal moment in our efforts to enhance building regulations and eliminate structural risks,” the Lagos governor wrote on social media.
“We won’t compromise on safety. My directive to all regulatory agencies is crystal clear: no leniency towards any building that doesn’t meet standards. The LASBCA ‘Green House’ will serve as a central hub for enforcing regulations and ensuring urban development.
“The ‘Green House’ is more than a building—it’s a turning point. This permanent base empowers LASBCA to enforce regulations seamlessly. Our goal: curbing building collapse incidents and fostering a safe, compliant environment.
“Compliance is non-negotiable and I urge stakeholders to adhere to our urban planning rules and construction codes. Our focus remains steadfast: zero tolerance for compromising safety. The LASBCA office is now a reliable source for approvals and guidance.”
