EKO HOT BLOG reports that Rotimi stated, “This march is a powerful statement of solidarity. We will submit a petition to the Inspector General of Police, urging decisive action to protect vulnerable populations and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.”
In addition to the march, the House has planned activities to sustain awareness during the 16 Days of Activism. On Tuesday, November 26, lawmakers will wear orange sashes during plenary sessions to symbolize solidarity in the fight against gender-based violence.
A strategic meeting will also be held on December 9, bringing together Speakers of State Houses of Assembly to discuss legislative measures to combat gender-based violence nationwide. This will be followed by the National Citizens’ Summit and GBV Conference 2024 on December 10.
Rotimi underscored the devastating impact of gender-based violence on Nigerian families and communities, emphasizing the 10th House’s commitment to systemic reforms and collaborative action.
“Through collective action and legislative reforms, we aim to foster a society where safety, justice, and equality prevail. Let us take a decisive stand for justice and human rights, paving the way for a safer Nigeria,” Rotimi added.
The House reiterated its commitment to raising awareness, driving legislative initiatives, and ensuring accountability in the fight against gender-based violence.
