EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ikwechegh said adopting technology remains critical to sanitising Nigeria’s electoral system, noting that while divergent views are common in public policy debates, reforms must prioritise national interest.
He argued that real time collation and transmission of results is the only credible way to ensure votes count and strengthen public confidence in the democratic process. According to him, continued reliance on manual collation creates room for manipulation and could undermine democratic progress.
“I am for electronic transmission, real-time collation. This is 2026. We are no longer in 1945. We should embrace growth and progress.
“Let us not put the entire country’s electoral system under jeopardy because of a few pockets of constituencies said not to have service,” he said.
The lawmaker dismissed concerns over limited network coverage in some areas, insisting that innovative solutions can address such challenges. He added that the House of Representatives would harmonise its position with the Senate after thorough scrutiny of the proposed amendment.
On the 2027 general elections, Ikwechegh said his political future would be determined by the wishes of his constituents in Aba. He described politics as service and representation.
“If my people in Aba say they want me to continue providing quality representation and dividends of democracy, why not? I am very much willing to offer my services as the chief servant of the people of Aba,” he stated.

Ikwechegh also congratulated former Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a patriotic Nigerian whose service brought pride to Abia State, the South East and the nation.
