Residents Protest Alleged Killing of Igbo Jah by Police in Enugu
Tensions are mounting in Enugu State as protests erupt following the alleged killing of well-known local musician, Okezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo Jah, reportedly by a police inspector.
EKO HOT BLOG reported that the incident took place on the evening of October 25, 2024, at the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad headquarters in Enugu.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that Igbo Jah was fatally shot by an officer while leaving the squad’s premises, around 8:10 p.m.

The circumstances remain under investigation, with the inspector involved now in custody.
Protests have since intensified, with hundreds of outraged residents marching to the anti-cult unit’s headquarters, where they attempted to set the building ablaze, according to Sahara Reporters.
Although police managed to prevent the fire, demonstrators have blocked major roads in the state capital, including Onu Asata, setting tires ablaze and chanting for justice.

Officers have responded with tear gas to disperse the crowds as tensions remain high. Scenes of burning tires, a powerful symbol of public outrage, fill the streets as protesters demand accountability for Igbo Jah’s death.
Meanwhile, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah expressed sorrow over Igbo Jah’s passing. In a statement released Saturday, he called the shooting “tragic and unfortunate,” extending condolences to the musician’s family.
