The Rivers State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all political appointees across the state.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a statement released on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator of Rivers State confirmed the decision. The directive, issued by Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, follows the authority granted to him by President Bola Tinubu.

The suspension affects top officials, including:

  • The Secretary to the State Government (SSG)
  • The Chief of Staff
  • All Honourable Commissioners
  • Chairpersons and members of boards, councils of agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals
  • All Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants

The statement further instructed the suspended officials to immediately transfer their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries within their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Where a Permanent Secretary is unavailable, the most senior Director or Head of Administration will take over.
