Rivers Administrator Swears In Newly Elected LG Chairmen
Ibas urged them to focus on governance and selfless service to the people.

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), on Monday swore in 23 newly elected local government chairmen at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The ceremony followed the presentation of certificates of return to the chairmen by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in his address, Ibas charged the new council bosses to prioritize governance over politics, stressing that their mandate should be seen as a responsibility to serve the people.

“This victory is not a prize to be enjoyed. It is a burden to be carried. It is not an entitlement, but a duty. It is not a call to self-interest, but to selfless service,” he said.

The Sole Administrator praised the conduct of the election, describing it as evidence that democracy has been restored in Rivers State. He noted that the peaceful outcome stood as a reflection of the people’s determination to entrench good governance at the grassroots level.

Ibas also recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, after a breakdown of law and order and the collapse of local government administration. He urged the new chairmen to work towards rebuilding confidence in democratic institutions.

He further commended the electorate for their discipline and active participation in the process, as well as RSIEC for delivering what he described as a transparent, credible, and rancour-free election.
