Rivers APC Governorship Candidate Deletes Congratulatory Post To President Elect
-
Rivers State governorship candidate of the APC quickly removes Facebook post congratulating President elect, Bola Tinubu after his victory in the 2023 elections.
-
This follows the controversy that has resulted from the election results being challenged by parties who were in the running for the Presidential seat.
-
Tonye Cole is believed to have removed the post owing to the backlash from electorates, and for fear of his stance hurting his own chance at the governorship polls.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has deleted a congratulatory post on his verified Facebook page, which he made for the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, following his victory in the just-concluded presidential election.
According to reports, Cole’s post received backlash from commenters believed to be supporters of Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

The LP supporters, who are allegedly angry about the alleged rigging of the presidential poll in the state, were said to have attacked Cole’s post.
However, when EKO HOT BLOG went over the post again on Friday, it was revealed that the post has been deleted from Cole’s verified Facebook page, suggesting that the APC gubernatorial candidate may be expecting large votes from LP supporters who are believed to be dissatisfied with the outcome of the presidential election.
It is unclear why Cole deleted the post, as he has not made any official statement regarding the issue. The development has, however, caused speculation among political observers in Rivers State, with some suggesting that the APC candidate may be trying to avoid controversy in the run-up to the gubernatorial election.
The gubernatorial election in Rivers State is scheduled to hold on March 9, and Cole is expected to face stiff competition from the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
