The ‘Rivers Women Unite for Sim’ rally started at CFC junction along Aba Road and proceeded to the Polo Club in GRA.
The women danced to music while displaying pro-peace placards reading “Allow Governor Sim Work in Peace” and “Peace is Priceless.” Some elderly women even rolled on the ground, holding signs pleading for calm.
Comedian Julius Agwu, actress Hilda Dokubo, and Labour Party Chairperson were among the celebrities joining the hours-long walk. Groups like the National Council of Women Society, market women, journalists, and others participated too.
The women observed a minute of silence for late Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe. They said the walk aimed to make their voices heard on the current political situation and demand respect for the governor’s constitutional office.
Spokesperson Glory Sunday read a 9-point resolution committing to pursue peace for Rivers’ growth. She stated the women “unequivocally condemn” threats to the governor’s office and warned against promoting violence.
Sunday expressed sadness that recent hatred and bad blood had robbed Rivers’ dignity, urging residents to build a credible state. She called on all to pray and speak out against lawlessness.
The resolution affirmed support for Governor Fubara’s peaceful governance. “We believe in peace and salute our courageous and God-sent Governor for choosing peace over chaos,” Sunday said.
