During July alone, four Royal Navy vessels, HMS Somerset, HMS Tyne, HMS Mersey, and HMS Severn, alongside Merlin anti-submarine aircraft and Wildcat helicopters, spent 21 days tracking Russian surface ships and submarines.
A central focus of the recent deployments involved monitoring the Russian frigate RFN Neustrashimy as it escorted vessels identified as part of Russia’s shadow fleet.
The British government noted that over 500 vessels have been sanctioned to disrupt funding for Moscow’s ongoing military campaign in Ukraine.
Military commanders emphasized that despite the heavy operational demand, the Royal Navy continues to maintain a continuous, high-readiness presence in close coordination with NATO allies to safeguard territorial sovereignty and security interests across the region.
