Ambassador Shola Agboola, founder of the Shola Agboola Goodwill Ambassador Foundation (SAGA), has revealed that the tragic death of his father inspired the creation of the foundation.

This revelation came during the unveiling of medical equipment donated to hospitals in Lagos State at an event held in Isolo.

On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Eko Club International and SAGA Foundation partnered to donate a variety of medical equipment to hospitals across Lagos State.

The ceremonial unveiling and handover event took place at the new Oba palace of the Osolo of Isolo, where Ambassador Shola Agboola, CEO and founder of SAGA, shared the heartbreaking story behind the foundation’s establishment.

In his speech, Ambassador Agboola recounted the personal tragedy that led to the foundation’s creation.

He disclosed that he lost his father at the age of thirteen due to the unavailability of a tetanus injection after his father sustained a fatal injury.

“There is a story behind SAGA Foundation that I would like to share… It started with a personal tragedy that happened 38 years ago. Thirty-eight years ago, I lost my father because he was severely ill.

He had a simple wound on his left leg that became infected with tetanus, and when he was rushed to the hospital, there was no tetanus injection to give him. As a result, he died,” Agboola said.

He continued, “That was 38 years ago… The most important person in my life died when I was just 13 years old.”

Despite the heartbreak, Ambassador Agboola shared the valuable lesson he learned from his father’s death.

“Although my father was financially poor, he was rich at heart and in humanity. As a child, various individuals with whom my father had developed close ties paid for my tuition,” he thought.

Ambassador Agboola emphasized that the purpose behind founding the SAGA Foundation was to prevent another 13-year-old from experiencing the same devastating loss due to inadequate healthcare.

He also addressed questions about how the foundation is able to afford expensive medical equipment for donation.

Agboola revealed that the Canadian government is the primary sponsor of the foundation’s initiatives.

“I know people may be wondering where we get all the funds to do what we do at SAGA Foundation…

The difference between living in Nigeria and Canada is that you do not have to be rich to make a significant impact.

For the past 11 years, the Canadian government has partnered with us to achieve our mission,” Agboola said.

The event concluded with the official handover of medical equipment to the government of Lagos State, followed by the issuance of certificates.
