Eko Hot Blog reports Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday ordered the arrest of an individual claiming to be an Army officer, who was found operating a motorcycle taxi (okada) in the wrong direction on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Wale Ajetunmobi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, shared videos of this incident on his official X handle on Tuesday.
His caption read, “This Morning: Lawless okada riders plying one-way along Lagos-Badagry Expressway left their motorcycles and passengers upon sighting the convoy of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“One of the offenders — a lance corporal in the Army — was arrested with his bike.”

In one video, motorcyclists fled with passengers to evade arrest by the governor’s security. Some escaped on foot, leaving behind motorcycles and passengers.
In another clip, Governor Sanwo-Olu directed officers to detain a motorcyclist claiming to be a soldier, announcing his intention to detain him.
He said, “Put him there; let your father come and rescue you. You’re telling me you are a soldier; that is the reason I’m going to lock you up.”
Addressing some passengers who patronised the motorcyclists, the governor said, “You people are the ones causing this. Maybe I should arrest two of you and put you in the guardroom.
“You’re entering Okada, and they are taking one way. Is it good? And they’ll now hit you; you’ll go and fall, and you die; they’ll say the government killed you. What a shame!”
In June 2023, the Lagos State Government reaffirmed the ban on ‘okada’ in specific areas.
Sola Giwa, Special Adviser on Transportation, emphasized compliance, warning of imprisonment, and motorcycle confiscation under the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018.
