The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp at Agbowa, Ikorodu, before the end of 2024.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 corps members on Friday, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, assured attendees that the camp would be ready by December. The event took place at the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a total of 4,335 corps members, including 1,484 males and 2,851 females, have been deployed to Lagos State under this stream. However, some participants were redirected to orientation camps in Oyo and Osun states.

Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged the corps members to fully engage in the orientation programmes, particularly the mentorship and entrepreneurial activities under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative.

“Pay close attention to these training sessions designed to equip you for self-sufficiency and financial independence during and after your service year,” he said. “Take advantage of the opportunities to network and form impactful relationships during the orientation exercise.”

In his remarks, Ogunlende, who also chairs the NYSC Governing Board in Lagos, advised corps members to abide by camp rules, remain active, and embrace the experience. He emphasized the importance of physical and mental preparation for the months ahead.

“Stay within the camp, listen to camp officials, and obey directives. Use this period to prepare for the next 11 months of your primary assignments,” Ogunlende said.

The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Christana Salmwang, commended the state government for its consistent support. She urged corps members to seize the orientation programmes to build their personal and professional capacities.
