EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ajetunmobi’s suspension followed allegations that he misrepresented facts about the 2020 #EndSARS protests, a controversy that stemmed from his remarks on his personal X handle.
His comments reportedly contradicted the official narrative surrounding the protests, prompting condemnation from the Lagos State Government.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, had issued a statement announcing Ajetunmobi’s suspension, calling the post a misrepresentation of facts and stressing the importance of professionalism in public communication. The Lagos State Government also distanced itself from the controversial post made by Ajetunmobi.
However, sources close to the matter have revealed that members of the governor’s inner circle lobbied for Ajetunmobi’s return to office. The source, who spoke to Sahara Reporters on Tuesday, stated that Ajetunmobi was advised to stay low and be cautious with his online posts going forward. The source added that some influential figures in the governor’s cabinet supported Ajetunmobi’s reinstatement due to their personal affinity for him.
Efforts to get an official statement from Akosile regarding Ajetunmobi’s reported secret recall were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to inquiries about the matter.
