The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, June 27, 2025, officially flagged off the second round of the National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign in Epe.
Ekohotblog reports that the programme, targeted at children aged 0 to 59 months, is aimed at strengthening efforts to eliminate polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases across the state.

Addressing a large gathering of nursing mothers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market leaders, youth groups, teachers, and other stakeholders at the Epe Local Government Secretariat, Ita-Marun, Dr. Sanwo-Olu appreciated Lagos residents for their consistent support of health initiatives in the state.
“I want to sincerely thank Lagosians for the cooperation and encouragement given to our health workers during immunization campaigns.
As this second round begins, I urge everyone to welcome the health teams into your communities. Do not deny your children the chance to receive these life-saving vaccines,” she said.
She also praised healthcare professionals for their commitment and resilience. “Our health workers have been at the forefront, showing exceptional dedication to keeping our environment healthy and our people safe. Their efforts must be supported by all.”
Delivering the keynote address, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, emphasized the need for continuous vaccination, especially in the wake of new disease outbreaks that followed the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As health providers, we cannot sit back and watch diseases spread. That is why we are continuing with routine vaccinations.
This round also includes the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for girls under nine years of age,” he said.
He noted the success of the previous round of immunization and set a higher target for this phase. “We achieved 100 percent coverage in the first round.
With more support, we can do even better this time. Please prioritize the health of our children by allowing vaccinators into your homes and neighborhoods.
If you encounter resistance from anyone, intervene and enlighten them about the importance of immunization.”
Dr. Mustafa also appealed to religious institutions, schools, markets, and community leaders to fully support the programme to ensure its success.
In her vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District III, Dr. (Mrs.) Monsurat Adeleke, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady, and all health stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to public health.
She described the administration’s approach to healthcare as both responsive and inclusive.
The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, represented by her Vice Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe, applauded the efforts of the state government and health leaders in boosting the healthcare sector.

She highlighted some of the council’s contributions to local health infrastructure, including the construction of a doctors’ lodge and a modern primary healthcare centre.
The symbolic vaccination was performed by Mrs. Oluwatoyin Badejo, who represented the First Lady during the flag-off ceremony.
