Eko Hot Blog reports that Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, an ally of former Kwara State Governor and Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has passed away.
He reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday. He was 57.
The former lawmaker was said to have been battling an undisclosed illness for months.
Ibrahim was elected in February 2015 to represent Kwara South Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly of Nigeria.
He served until 2019 when he lost his bid to return to the upper legislative chamber.
Throughout his tenure, the senator chaired the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to financial matters.
Ibrahim also contributed his insights and leadership as a member of various Senate Committees, including Appropriation, Federal Character and Inter-Government Affairs, and Media and Public Affairs.
A stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the late politician started off his political career as a member of Kwara State House of Assembly in 2009, and was later elected in April 2011 to represent Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives of the 7th National Assembly.
He was born on December 12, 1966, and started his education at Ojoku Grammar School where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate Examination in 1985.
Ibrahim proceeded to Kwara State Polytechnic where he graduated in 1987. He obtained his master’s degree at the University of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, earning Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2000 and later a doctorate degree, PhD, in Business Administration from Lead City University in 2009.
The deceased was also in Harvard Kennedy School for Innovation for Economic Development in April 2016 and Leadership for the 21st Century: Chaos, Conflict and Courage in 2018.
