- Son and daughter of late Olusola Saraki reacts to demolition of library named after their dad by Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
The Immediate Past Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has reacted over the demolition of a public library named after his late Dad, Dr Olusola Saraki, a former national lawmaker and a Renowned politician in Kwara State, EkohotBlog reports.
The duo while reacting in a Statement Released on Tuesday evening claimed the act was perpetrated on the orders of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration in the state.
“I just got the news that the major official assignment carried out by the Governor of my state, Kwara, today, is the demolition of an old public library named after my late dad, Dr. Olusola Saraki. May Almighty Allah continue to retain a place for Oloye in Aljannah Firdaus”. – Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON
Similarly, Sen Gbemisola Saraki, the State minister of Transportation, reacted over the demolition.
Sen Gbemisola Saraki wrote ; Yet again, today we find that the Governor of Kwara State’s focus is not on building up Kwara, but on demolishing buildings which were owned or named after my late father the Waziri of Ilorin.
No matter how many structures are demolished Baba Saraki’s legacy can never be destroyed, because it lives in the hearts and minds of the great people of Kwara.”
Meanwhile, The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mall. Abdulrafiu Ajakaye in a Statement debunked the insinuation that the demolition was ordered by the State Government
The Statement Reads ; I have just spoken with the Ministry of Works under which we have town planning dept and they clearly have nothing to do with it. So, the state govt has nothing to do with it.
I have also placed a call thru to the Hon Com for LG/Chieftaincy Affairs/Community Devt who then patched me thru to the Ilorin West TIC Chair.
The chairman made the following clarifications:
- The facility is dilapidated and was serving as hideouts for some anti-social elements with consequences for public safety.
- The community appealed to the LG authorities to do something about it.
- The LG has moved in to remove parts of it preparatory to rehabilitating the facility by adding an ICT centre for public use. After its reconstruction, it should retain the honorary name of Baba Saraki
- CLARIFICATION: the facility, to be clear, does not belong to Baba Saraki. It is the property of Ilorin West LG named after Oloye. The owner is set to renovate it.
- No cause for alarm, pls. The owner is fixing its property. And it will retain the honorary name earlier given to it after renovation.
