BREAKING: Senate Officially Confirms Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede As Chief of Army Staff

The Senate confirmed on Tuesday, the appointment of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS), following the adoption of the Army Committee’s screening report.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the report was presented at plenary by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’adua (APC-Katsina), who praised Oluyede for his impressive credentials, accomplishments, and his deep understanding of the responsibilities of the office.

Yar’adua commended the nominee for his exceptional qualifications and notable achievements, emphasizing the nominee’s competence and experience in military leadership. He added that the nomination was in accordance with Section 217, Subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and aligned with the provisions of Section 18, Subsection 1 of the Armed Forces Act.

Yar’adua also pointed out that the Department of State Services (DSS) had cleared Oluyede and that he had progressed through the proper promotion process, which qualified him for the position of Chief of Army Staff.

After Yar’adua’s presentation, the Senate unanimously confirmed Oluyede’s appointment, officially solidifying his position as the new substantive Chief of Army Staff.

This confirmation comes just days after Oluyede was confirmed by the House of Representatives, marking a significant step in his leadership of the Nigerian Army.
