- Senate Extends Recess, Shifts Resumption to October 7
- Senators to participate fully in the October 1 Independence Day celebrations
- Legislative duties will remain pending until plenary resumes
The leadership of the 10th Senate has once again adjusted its legislative calendar, moving the resumption of plenary sittings from September 23 to October 7, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the decision was communicated through an internal memo signed by the Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Chinedu Akubueze, and circulated within the National Assembly.
The change, which effectively prolongs the chamber’s annual recess by two additional weeks, has sparked reactions among lawmakers and observers.
Although the memo did not provide an official explanation, insiders disclosed that the delay was partly to allow senators participate fully in the October 1 Independence Day celebrations.
In the memo titled “Notice of Shift in Plenary Resumption Date,” Akubueze apologised to senators for the late notice and urged them to adjust their schedules accordingly.
The Senate had earlier adjourned plenary on July 24 for its annual recess, a move Senate President Godswill Akpabio defended as aligning with the House of Representatives’ calendar.

With this latest shift, key legislative duties—including debates on motions, government spending inquiries, and pending executive confirmations—will remain pending until plenary resumes.
