EKO HOT BLOG reports that this marks the second time the lawmaker’s residence has been targeted in 2025, following a similar attack in April. According to a statement from her media office, armed men stormed the property late Tuesday, vandalising several windows before being repelled by a combined team of police officers, community vigilantes, and local youths.
One suspect, identified as Suberu Jose, was apprehended at the scene. He was described as a known ritualist and resident of the area. Security agents recovered a cutlass and charms from him. Jose reportedly confessed that this was his third attempt on the residence.
Eyewitnesses claimed an angry mob nearly lynched the suspect before he was rescued by the security operatives and handed over to the police. Other members of the gang reportedly escaped and remain at large.
The media office described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in what it believes is a series of coordinated attacks against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. It noted that the earlier April 15 attack resulted in no arrests.
The renewed violence comes amid rising political tensions. The Federal Government recently filed two criminal charges against Akpoti-Uduaghan, shortly after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment — a claim that led to her controversial six-month suspension from the Senate.
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Police spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, said the arrested suspect is assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved.
