Ekohotblog reports that Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has been named the Outstanding Policy Maker of the Year 2024 at the Democracy Heroes Award Africa.
The award ceremony, held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, attracted top government officials, state governors, and business leaders.

Senator Abiru won the award after polling 3,448 votes from his constituents. The organizers described the voting process as a “tedious and well-monitored exercise, supervised by our accredited audit committee.”
Speaking at the event, a representative of the organizers said, “Senator Abiru’s performances in office has been nothing short of remarkable. He has shown what true leadership and dedication to service look like.”
The award was received on his behalf by Hon. Olusegun Olulade, Executive Director, Customer Centricity and Marketing, Galaxy Backbone Limited, along with the Senator’s Special Assistant, Mr. Dele Abiru, and the APC Youth Leader in Lagos State, Dr. Muritala Seriki.
Reacting to the award, Senator Abiru said, “This recognition is a testament to the hard work we have put in.
I am grateful to the people of Lagos East for their continuous support and encouragement. We will keep working hard to deliver even more.”
Senator Abiru is known for his work in the Senate, focusing on three main areas: Legislative, Empowerment, and Endowment.
He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
He was previously the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries and also serves as the Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum.
“This award encourages us to keep pushing boundaries and to serve our people with even greater commitment,” he added.
The Democracy Heroes Award Africa, now in its 12th edition, celebrates outstanding leaders and individuals who have contributed to Nigeria’s democratic development.
