The Annual Ramadan Lecture of the Odo- Ayandelu  Central Mosque, Ikosi Ejinrin-Epe, Lagos State  provided a platform for deep reflections as renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abdul Lateef Abdul Hakeem, delivered a powerful sermon on the importance of giving and helping the needy.

Tagged:  Zakat and Sadaqah, the lecture emphasized the essence of charity in Islam, urging Muslims to use the holy month of Ramadan to reflect on pressing social and economic issues.

Sheikh Abdul Lateef highlighted the fundamental differences between Zakat, a compulsory almsgiving, and Sadaqah, a voluntary act of kindness, stressing the importance of both in fostering a compassionate society.

The cleric encouraged Muslim faithful to always prioritize supporting the less privileged, noting that charity begins at home. “Before extending help to the wider society, look inward to see if there’s someone within your family who is in need,” he advised.

Furthermore, he urged Muslims to remember their clerics, pointing out that they, too are human and may require support. “Our religious leaders dedicate their lives to guiding us spiritually; they also deserve care and assistance when needed,” he stated.

The event was graced by dignitaries, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Aderibigbe Asumi Ganiyu, who honoured the gathering with his presence.

The annual lecture continues to serve as a crucial avenue for enlightenment, reinforcing the values of charity, empathy, and communal support during Ramadan and beyond.
