Shettima conveyed his endorsement during a meeting with Akpabio, Barau, and over 70 senators-elect in Abuja.
As a current member of the Senate, Shettima emphasized the importance of politics as a unifying force rather than a means of division.
He stated that since both the President-elect and Vice President-elect are Muslims, it is crucial for the next position to be given to someone of the Christian faith.
Shettima believed that failing to do so would validate the alleged Islamization agenda of the APC-led administration and would be perceived as an insult to Christian supporters.
He commended the party’s decision to appoint Senator Godswill Akpabio, whom he referred to as his uncommon brother and leader, as the third most important person in the country, emphasizing that the stability and unity of the nation should take precedence over political considerations.
Shettima also expressed his intention to reach out to other Senate presidential aspirants who may be dissatisfied with the APC’s choices.
He highlighted his friendship and camaraderie with Senator Abdulaziz Yari, stating that while personal considerations are important, the nation’s welfare should take precedence.
He praised the bipartisan support shown by those present at the meeting, expressing satisfaction with their commitment to the stability and unity of the country.
The Vice President-elect expressed gratitude to Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and David Umahi of Ebonyi State for their contributions and support for the APC.
He lauded Governor Wike as a man of honor and integrity, emphasizing that his actions have greatly contributed to the country’s stability.
Shettima described Governor Umahi as the best-performing governor in the South-East, noting that although Umahi initially intended to contest for the Senate leadership, he respected the party’s decision and withdrew his candidacy.
Shettima assured that efforts would be made to engage and persuade those who are yet to join the APC, with the assistance of his principal, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a veteran politician known for his skills in political maneuvering.
During the meeting, Godswill Akpabio addressed his support group, which consisted of members from various political parties who had come together to establish leadership for the 10th Senate in order to bring stability to Nigeria. Akpabio stressed that the success of the Tinubu-Shettima administration would directly translate to the success of Nigeria. He emphasized that upon entering the Senate, senators represent the entire nation rather than just their respective political parties. Akpabio’s Stability Group pledged to work closely with the incoming administration, evaluating policies and ensuring the stability of the country.
