Sowore and Ezenwa AAC camps embroiled in fight at INEC Headquarters
- The two political factions clashed over ownership of the party
- Sowore sees himself as the owner of the party
- Ezenwa faction sees Sowore as an expelled member
- Sowore camp gives INEC a seven-day ultimatum for recognition as the legitimate faction.
Two political camps of the African Action Congress (AAC) fought each other at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Monday. One of the camps was led by political activist and 2019 presidential contender Omoyele Sowore, while the other was led by Leonard Ezenwa.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the Sowore camp was protesting at the INEC HQ over the perceived imposition of leadership on the party which he claims he established in 2018 ahead of the 2019 presidential elections.
Sowore believes his party is the only revolutionary party in Nigeria, which the government is allegedly trying to silence by imposing people who will do their bidding as against the vision of the party.
The Ezenwa camp arrived at the scene at the INEC HQ carrying placards and chanted against the Sowore camp which led to a melee.
Ezenwa sees Sowore as an expelled member of the party due to alleged anti-party activities he has been engaging in. He also accused Sowore of financial fraud within the party.
The Sowore camp is seeking recognition to be the original owners of the party.
INEC has already recognised the Ezenwa camp as the legitimate owners of the party but the Sowore camp has written a protest letter to INEC giving the electoral body a seven-day ultimatum to reverse the recognition.
