EKO HOT BLOG reports that Brennan Johnson opened the scoring in the 40th minute after latching onto a precise cross from Richarlison, who had timed his run perfectly to stay onside. The goal stood after an incorrect offside flag was overturned, leaving City goalkeeper James Trafford with little chance. It was a forgettable home debut for Trafford, who was chosen ahead of former first-choice Ederson.
Tottenham doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time. A defensive lapse from City gifted Joao Palhinha the opportunity to fire home, putting the visitors firmly in control before the break. From that point, Spurs managed the game with composure, frustrating Pep Guardiola’s side, who struggled to break through a compact and disciplined Tottenham defence.
City, who had impressed in their opening-day win over Wolves, looked disjointed and toothless throughout. Erling Haaland missed a header just before half-time, and Phil Foden’s second-half introduction failed to spark the champions into life. Ruben Dias admitted after the game that the second goal was “unacceptable” and described the result as “frustrating.”
For Spurs, the pace of Mohammed Kudus and Johnson, combined with Richarlison’s link-up play, exposed City’s high defensive line repeatedly. Frank praised his team’s mentality, noting their “solid high press” and togetherness. Palhinha also revealed that the manager was instrumental in convincing him to join Spurs this summer.

The win means Tottenham have now won their opening two games of the Premier League season without conceding, while City remain on three points. Spurs also continue an impressive record at the Etihad, having now beaten Guardiola’s men on their last two visits, scoring six goals without reply.
