“FG has announced the commencement of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) scholarships overseas,” the post stated.
According to information published on the PTDF scholarship board website, the scheme is open to MSc and PhD candidates in disciplines relevant to the oil and gas sector. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive support, including tuition fees, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.
The PTDF said the scholarship is designed to build local capacity and enhance technical expertise within Nigeria’s energy sector.
“The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities and global expertise, while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector,” the agency stated.

For PhD applicants studying in the United Kingdom, the programme will operate under a split-site arrangement, allowing scholars to conduct research between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) and selected UK partner institutions. These include Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.
The PTDF emphasised that the scholarships are highly competitive, noting that only candidates who demonstrate exceptional merit and suitability will be shortlisted.
“Applicants will be assessed based on academic qualifications, research proposals, professional body membership, and the relevance of their studies to the oil and gas industry,” the statement said.
To qualify, MSc applicants must possess a minimum of Second Class Lower (2:2) in their first degree, have completed the NYSC programme, be computer literate, and hold at least five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
PhD applicants are additionally required to submit a research proposal of no more than five pages, detailing objectives, methodology and data collection strategies.
The PTDF also warned that applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified before applying, stressing that multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification.
Interested candidates are to apply online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The deadline for applications is 27 February.
