The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced Monday, May 18, 2026, as the first day of Zulhijja 1447AH.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday by the Sultanate Council in Sokoto and signed by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sambo Wali Junaidu.

According to the statement, the declaration marks the beginning of the twelfth month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
Zulhijja is a sacred month in Islam during which Muslims around the world observe the Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah and prepare for the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

The Sultanate Council called on Muslims in Nigeria and globally to embrace the period for increased worship, prayer, charity, and acts that promote peace and unity.
It also encouraged the faithful to use the holy month to pray for national stability, progress, and harmony across the country.
