EKO HOT BLOG reports that Iwobi spoke ahead of Nigeria’s semi final clash against hosts Morocco on Wednesday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, describing the bond within the squad as the foundation of their success.
Nigeria have emerged as the standout team of the tournament, winning all five matches so far, scoring 14 goals and conceding just four. The tally represents the most goals Nigeria have ever scored in a single AFCON campaign, surpassing the 12 recorded at the 2000 edition.
Victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique and Algeria have pushed the Super Eagles into the last four as strong contenders for the title.
Speaking at the pre match press conference, Iwobi said the team’s togetherness has made the difference.
“For me, I feel it is the family environment we have created, the brotherhood within the team. Everyone cares about how the other feels, we are united and all pushing in the same direction to make sure we succeed on pitch,” he said.
The Fulham midfielder has played a key role in Nigeria’s midfield dominance, controlling the tempo and contributing to the build up of several goals. Fans have praised him as the team’s leading pre assist provider, noting his composure and intelligence.
Iwobi said the current success is an extension of lessons learned from the previous AFCON, where Nigeria reached the final with a young squad.
“From the previous AFCON where we performed very well, we were a bit young but you realise now everyone is entering their prime and performing well both at club and the national team,” he said.
He added that missing out on World Cup qualification has further strengthened the team’s resolve.

“Obviously, we wanted to qualify for the World Cup, but it did not happen, and we are trying to use that disappointment as a push factor for ourselves and our country,” Iwobi said.
Nigeria face Morocco on Wednesday, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final.
