- Super Eagles Lose CHAN Opener to Senegal
- Nigeria bottom of Group D, face Sudan next Tuesday.
- Bendel Insurance release 25 players ahead of new NPFL season.
Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles began their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Senegal on Tuesday.
Expectations were high ahead of the encounter, as both West African sides sought to make a statement, especially with Nigeria’s recent successes in women’s football adding pressure for a strong showing.
The game started evenly, with Nigeria dominating possession but struggling to create clear chances. After a goalless first half, Senegal capitalised on a defensive lapse in the 74th minute, with Christian Kobi scoring the decisive goal.
The result leaves Nigeria bottom of Group D after Congo held Sudan to a 1-1 draw in the other fixture. The Super Eagles will face Sudan next Tuesday at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar in a must-win match to revive their hopes of progressing.

Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance have announced the release of 25 players from their squad as they prepare for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
