Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has admitted that his team faces a tough challenge in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Warriors of Zimbabwe. The crucial match is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo at 5 p.m. today, March 25.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, Chelle acknowledged Zimbabwe’s strength, pointing out their talented players and experienced coach, Michael Nees. He emphasized that his team must stay focused and well-prepared to overcome their opponents.

“This match will not be easy for us because Zimbabwe has a talented roster, astute players, and an experienced coach in Michael Nees,” Chelle stated. “I am proud of my players for their performance against Rwanda — it was a challenging match, but they executed our game plan effectively.”

The Super Eagles enter the game with confidence after securing a 2-0 victory over Rwanda last Friday, while Zimbabwe arrives following a hard-fought 2-2 draw against the Benin Republic.

Chelle stressed the importance of maintaining momentum and ensuring that their training efforts translate into a strong performance on the pitch. “We had a productive training session yesterday, and we need to carry that momentum onto the pitch again to ensure we are well-prepared for the game tomorrow,” he added.

Highlighting the tactical approach of Zimbabwe’s coach, Chelle noted, “This coach has a well-defined game strategy, which we must respect and prepare for with our utmost focus.”

Beyond the immediate challenge, Chelle reaffirmed his long-term vision for the Super Eagles, emphasizing his commitment to developing a winning mentality within the team. “I’ve had discussions with my players and made it clear that my goal is to win every match we play. My concentration is firmly on the upcoming game against Zimbabwe. Once that match concludes, we can shift our focus to the subsequent challenges.”
