A massive explosion at the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday evening caused panic among motorists and commuters.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the explosion, which occurred around 7 pm, sent thick flames into the air, according to multiple videos shared on social media platform X. The cause of the incident remains unconfirmed, though some eyewitnesses speculated that a petrol tanker was involved.
A user on X, Tonye Oliver, described the situation as a “major disaster,” while another, Pamilerin Adegoke, warned commuters to steer clear of the area. “Please avoid the bridge, heavy fire right now,” he wrote.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, stated that emergency responders had been deployed to the scene.
“Some sort of explosion. Awaiting Preliminary Report. LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team at the location,” Okunbor said in a brief WhatsApp message.
Authorities have yet to confirm any casualties or the extent of damage as rescue efforts continue.
