The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has provided insights into the prolonged power outages affecting major cities in Northern Nigeria, explaining that the ongoing security challenges in the region have significantly hindered repair efforts.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, TCN acknowledged that the vandalism of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line has drastically reduced the supply of electricity to areas including Kaduna and Kano.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Mbah highlighted that TCN is actively collaborating with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to ensure the safety of its engineers while they work on restoring power. “TCN would like to state categorically that it is working diligently to restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible despite prevailing security challenges,” the statement read.
The Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line is crucial for supplying electricity to Northern Nigeria, and its vandalization by insurgents has severely impacted the region’s power supply.
Engr. (Mrs) Nafisatu Ali, TCN’s Executive Director for Independent System Operator, emphasized that deploying engineers without security support in the affected areas poses significant risks. She reassured the public that the restoration process is a priority, stating, “TCN is already working round the clock to ensure the quick restoration of power supply.”
In an effort to mitigate the impact of the outage, TCN has temporarily rerouted bulk power supply through the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV line, although this line has also recently snapped.
The company remains committed to resolving the situation and restoring normal power supply, urging patience as they navigate these challenges. “This collaboration is vital to ensure the safety of lives during the repairs,” the statement concluded.
