Ugandan artist Bebe Cool has refuted claims that he was behind the 2020 arrest of Grammy Award winner Tems and her colleague, Omah Lay.
EKO HOT BLOG recalls that the Nigerian singers were arrested in Uganda after performing at a concert at Speke Resort, Kampala, on December 12, 2020, violating COVID-19 regulations.

After their release, Tems accused Bebe Cool of orchestrating their arrest.
Addressing the allegation on the Afrobeats Podcast, Bebe Cool denied any involvement, stating he only intervened to help.

“I didn’t get Tems and Omah Lay arrested. I was asleep when a friend called around 3 a.m. to inform me of their detention. By 6 a.m., I was at the police station speaking with the DPC,” he explained.
He argued that the artists should not have been arrested, as they were not responsible for organizing the event. However, tensions arose because Ugandan artists had been unable to perform due to restrictions, while foreign acts were allowed.
