The Billionaire Philanthropist, Chief Harry Ayoade Akande Goes Home
Chief Harry Ayoade Akande, the astute international businessman and philanthropist was laid to rest in Ibadan, his hometown on the 23rd of December 2020 after a funeral service was held for him at St. David’s Anglican Church, Kudeti, Oyo State at 10am. He died at the age of 77, leaving behind a widow and four children. The church service was attended, physically, by very close family and friends while others watched via zoom in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines and regulations implemented by the government.
The casket of the deceased was carried into the church by the pallbearers of Ebony caskets dressed in the Red attire of the Royal guards as his chieftaincy crown was carried on a staff behind his casket. When his casket was placed in front of the church, his chieftaincy crown and that representing that of the Olubadan, both on two different staff were placed side by side by the casket.
After the Christian rites were observed, the clergy eulogized the late businessman as a man of integrity and kindness whose exemplary life should be emulated by all people. He said his ambition was to improve the lives of Nigerian, economically and socially through his political desire but he didn’t get the chance to do so.
The previous evening, the 22nd of December, 2020, a wake-keep and night of tribute was held at Jogor Centre, Ibadan at 5pm, also with close family and friends who came to pay their last respect to the great man who was known both at home and abroad. His son, Olumide Akande read the first lesson, while, Foluke Akande took the next lesson, the third reading was done by Atinuke Akande while the last bible reading was done by Olawunmi Akande after which the clergy called on business associates, friends and family members to speak about his impact on their lives.
The commendation service for the deceased was held at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina on the 21st of December, 2020 with the members of the family seated at the front pew dressed in purple attire. The clergy eulogized the late international businessman as a man of the people who was kind and generous to all and enjoined all to follow his footsteps of kindness and generosity.
