- Five premier league teams with the longest unbeaten run
- Man United – 29
Streak: December 26, 1998 – September 25, 1999; April 11, 2010 – February 5, 2011
Remarkably, Manchester United have gone 29 games unbeaten on two separate occasions. The first was in that famous Treble-winning campaign, when they avoided defeat from Christmas until the end of the campaign, stretching into the new season. That was ended spectacularly by Chelsea in October of 1999, who thumped the reigning champions 5-0 at Stamford Bridge.
In 2011, Alex Ferguson’s charges were just over two months away from going an entire year undefeated when they lost 2-1 to Wolves thanks to goals from George Elokobi and Kevin Doyle. They won the league by nine points that season.
- ManchesterCity (2017-18) – 30 matches
Manchester City set a multitude of records in 2018. They racked up the most points in a season (100), most away points (50), most wins (32) and most consecutive victories (18) – but they couldn’t manage an entire league season without a loss.
After steamrolling the entire Premier League 30 matchdays in a row – dropping just eight points while doing so – Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool beat them 4-3 in a pulsating January clash at Anfield. It was to be the first of three defeats to the Reds that season, that also saw City crash out of the Champions League.
- Chelsea, 2004/05 – 40 Games
Jose Mourinho arrived at Stamford Bridge labelling himself ‘the Special One’ and, boy, did he prove it. His first season started with a run that saw his team ship just two goals in their opening 10 games but one of them was the solitary strike that saw them lose at the City of Manchester stadium. Not to be knocked out of their stride though, the Blues went unbeaten for the next 29 matches, conceding just 13 goals in the process, as Mourinho guided the club to their first top tier title in 50 years.
The 05/06 season saw the charismatic Portuguese lead Chelsea to another Premier League win but their unbeaten run came to an end in November in the same city where they last tasted defeat 40 games earlier but this time at the hands of Manchester United courtesy of a rare Darren Fletcher goal.
- Liverpool (44 games)
Liverpool vs Man Utd | Premier League
Dates spanned: 12/01/2019 –2020
From one team that looked unbeatable to another which may just be, Liverpool’s current unbeaten run stands at 44 and it is so impressive. Starting in January 2019, they are now without a league defeat in over a year and have dropped points on just five occasions.
Four of those draws came last season and proved costly in their title hopes, but Liverpool’s capacity for winning could see them climb all the way to the top of this list by the end of the season. To do so, however, they will have to avoid losing at the home of the Premier League’s reigning champions, Manchester City.
- Arsenal – 49 : May 2003 – October 2004
The 2003/04 Arsenal team became only the second one in English football history to go an entire league campaign undefeated since Preston North End in 1888/89. While a shock 3-2 home defeat to Leeds United ended Arsenal’s 2002/03 title hopes, it propelled them on to greater things by going the following season unbeaten altogether. Unfortunately, Arsene Wenger’s squad fell just a game short of reaching the half-century following a 2-0 loss to Manchester United.Still, no other team has matched the club’s legendary run ever since.
